Playing on the back patio
I brought Cara's exersaucer out on the back patio so she could enjoy the beautiful day in the shade. She really seemed to enjoy it and was quite content for some time. It must have been the fresh air, warm temps and cool breeze. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come and we can spend many more hours out there. I think I may have to look into getting some foam pads to put down once she starts to move around a bit more.
Speaking of moving around, Cara is learning how to move a bit. She can hoist her legs up and then whip them down which moves her in a circle. There have been a couple times where she has been able to move herself perpendicular in the crib...it is only a matter of time!

Holding bottles
I'm trying to trick Cara into holding her bottle by periodically switching to a smaller bottle I have around the house. She seems to like to hold a sippy cup and the small bottle, but her regular bottles seem to be a bit off limits in holding since she expects us to hold it for her!
The temps are creeping into the 80's on this April weekend. Hopefully we can get Cara outside and enjoy it. I think I am headed to my favorite flower store when Cara wakes from her nap (She is still taking a nap 2 hours after she wakes). That Bloomin' Place in Weymouth is amazing.

Cara's first foods
Well, we finally gave in and are feeding Cara some solids. We wanted to hold off on solids for awhile so she could get the most nutrients from breastmilk as possible (lord knows I work hard enough for it!) She has been getting grumpy in the evenings and it seems that the food cheers her up. Not a bad thing!
We have been giving her the combination of rice cereal, breastmilk and a little organic apple sauce. Thanks for the suggestion Nikki Emens. Robby would be proud that "strong, baby Cara" is eating food! :)

Pool baby
Cara was able to have her first dip in the pool while in California. She has always enjoyed her bath, so I wasn't too surprised that she seemed to like the pool. Of course, the pool isn't as nice and warm, but she still enjoyed it.
San Francisco Zoo
We took a trip to the San Francisco Zoo. It was a very cool zoo, you were able to get very close to the animals. Not as close to the tigers as you used to be able to - there was a recent accident, so safety has improved. Thank goodness - we want our little Cara to be safe.
You can see a giraffe poking its hear into our family picture. The giraffes were beautiful. I thought maybe Cara would appreciate since her giraffe is one of her favorite toys, but I don't think she really understood what we were looking at. I am convinced it all looks like a huge HD television screen. Very interesting, but she can't quite put it all together.
Very neat zoo. I am glad we had the chance to visit.
Motor skills
Cara has been very seriously working on her motor skills. She loves to examine and feel the detail of her toys and pass toys back and forth between her hands. She is also beginning to remember how certain toys work. For instance, she can remember to push a button for sounds to come from her toy. It's really fun to watch.

Playing in the Emens backyard with Dad
The Emens have such a nice property. Look at all the blooms. I hope they follow us back to New England.
California
Cara is having a great time in California. She did pretty well on the flight - though she was a bit cranky when we tried to get her to sleep, but she slept the last 4 hours of the flight, which was a relief.
This picture was taken are her first baseball game, which she really loved - Red Sox at Oakland. The game and all the fans were very exciting.
Cara is also enjoying spending time with the Emens kids. Little Robby is very entertaining and Cara get a good chuckle out of him.
Off for a walk in beautiful Los Altos Hills...

Happy Easter
Cara had an interesting first Easter. She went to church and peed on momma. Then had a fun afternoon with Daddy's family. Somewhere along the line she got something in her eye, so we ended up headed to Mass Eye and Ear to have her checked out - she was fine!
We are off to California tonight. I have to go to work for a few hours, but will then be home to help put the final touches on the packing. Hopefully there are many pictures to come this week!

Rattle, rattle, rattle
Cara is loving the rattle these days. She is able to more precisely pick up her toys, switch them from hand to hand, put them in her mouth and most importantly, bang them on whatever she is sitting on. The good part is that she is no longer whacking herself in the head with these harder toys.
I always try to play with Cara when I get home from work. I make the most of the morning and evening since I miss her so much during the day. She is doing well at day care though. I can see that she is beginning to become a little more social. They are still within themselves a little when they are this young and in such an active environment such as day care.
Cara will be home with daddy tomorrow. Michael's first full day of watching Cara. I'm sure he'll go visit is mom and grandma though ;)

Stylin'
Cara was getting used to her sunglasses! She looks pretty cool. We are headed out to California next week to visit with the Emens' and it looks like Cara will fit right in in California!
Strength
It seems that the good part about 'growth spurts' is that, at least in this case, they are accompanying developmental changes. Cara's ability to hold her head up has really advanced. And that is not a small feet with that noggin! As you can see, it does become a bit tiring to hold it up.
She really is a strong little girl. She loves to lift her feet in the air and slam her feet down as hard as possible. It is a little much when she is on her changing table - but that is her favorite place to try out that skill.

Sleeeeep
Well, Cara is now 4.5 weeks old and it has been an interesting week. We think Cara has been going through a growth spurt. She certainly does seem heavier and is filling out 6-12 month clothing.
The bad part is that for a few nights, she was really waking a bunch of times during the night. I also have a feeling that it has to do with the fact that she is adjusting to a better day time nap schedule. In the past, she was sleeping every 2 hours or so. I think she is ready to adjust to having 2 naps during the day. We just need to get those at the right times! On Sunday, she only slept 2 hours between 7AM and 4:30PM. That's not much for a girl her age! She needs her beauty sleep! (And so do mom and dad)
