Well October has been a tiring month so far. With Michael traveling, Cara with the croup and me with some illness, we are ready for a new month. Cara has sprung back and is continuing to get around the house as well as learning new dance moves. She seems to come up with some interesting ones. My personal favorite is when she sticks out her bum and gives it a good shake as she shimmies with her shoulders. She's a natural!

Dada

Cara's favorite sound may now be uh oh, though da da is a close second. She calls most things da da, but I think she also does associate it with Michael. Many times when Michael is in the basement I will stand at the top of the stairs with Cara and say "dada, dada, dada" then Michael will pop his head around the corner. Today when Michael went downstairs she stated calling for him without any prompting. It was really cute.

She still doesn't say mama too much, though still yelling it from her crib if we don't get her out soon enough!

Walking in the Leaves, Wells, Maine

We went for a drive to Wells Reservation in Maine today. I was hoping to see some red and orange leaves so we could get some good pictures since there isn't a lot of color in Massachusetts yet. We had a really nice walk on the reservation and then had a late lunch at the Maine Diner. Cara looked beautiful in her Irish knit. How can you not have a picture like this with a last name like McDonnell?

Playing in the park

Firetruck

Ok - Cara LOVES this firetruck. She cannot get enough of being pushed around the house on it. She also likes if you push her across the room to another person. It's so cute, she looks back at the person that gave her the push and smiles.

It's only been a few days and I think she is getting the hang of scooting her feet along so she might be able to push herself soon. She is also able to walk while holding the back handle - but that is a little less fun!

One of my favorite pictures

Cara has been a busy girl this past week, she has been on her feet pretty much 75% of the day. She is really trying to find her balance to walk, but I think she still have some time left. Unfortunately! It has really been a struggle this past week because she is going through this development. I had vacation from Thursday through tomorrow and she has given me a run for my money. I shouldn't blame her - she just wants attention. Books, to be held up by her hands to walk, "wrestling," playing with balls, going to the store, going to the park, etc. When I wanted to take a little break, Cara has not been impressed. She will be going back to day care tomorrow and I have a feeling she will be in better shape because there is more activity and excitement.

On the plus side, she has been so cute with starting to communicate. She loves "uh oh," but she also is really consistently saying mama. Well, she only really says mama when she wants me to get her out of her crib!

On the crib note - I think Cara might be starting to figure out how to sleep through the night. There were a couple nights this week that she made it through. However, there were some bad ones as well. If she didn't cry so loudly, I might think about letting her cry for awhile. I did for awhile tonight because it was a must - never fun!

Yoga Baby

Cara has been spending about 90% of her day standing and going around on the furniture. I think she is working up those leg muscles for walking.

She has been so cute this week saying "uh oh." I think I would almost classify that as her first word. She has been trying to repeat things more often - she was very close to saying "thank you" - I was surprised at that one!

Standing and Hugs

Now that Cara is consistently pulling herself up - on EVERYTHING, things are a little chaotic. We have to make sure we keep our eyes on Cara every second. Not that we weren't before, but she can now get herself into even more trouble. Today she was in the bathroom, pulled herself up on the cast iron tub and then tried to launch herself over the top head first. Could have been ugly - luckily I was there to catch her.

Another cute story - Cara pulled herself up on me, as she usually does and came close to me as to give me a hug. She came in close and gave my neck what sounded like a kiss. I could see her reflection in the oven window and saw that she was smiling. Given that she is not usually very cuddly, it warmed my heart.

In order to get some cuddles from her, she and I usually play for awhile on my bed each night before she goes to bed. She loves to roll around, get tickles and be hugged while I swing her around. She laughs and has a great time. It is the highlight of each day.

Maine

Last weekend we went to visit my Mom, Grandma and Aunt Jane while they were on a trip to Maine. They rented a little house in Moody, ME and we stayed over on Saturday night. Cara and I took a walk to the ocean and took a few pictures. The ocean really reflected her eyes in this one.

Luckily, Cara slept all the way there and all the way back. I strategically left at her nap time though! I left my Sirius radio on and it ran my battery down - my mom and I had to use the jumper cables! Always interesting.

Cara really enjoyed spending time with the family. She had a lot of people to read and sing to her - she definitely appreciated that! On our way back from the Maine Diner all four of us sang to her as she was getting cranky...."We are the dinosaurs, marching, marching" ... fun!
