Everyone was very generous and Cara received a ton of toys and clothes. We actually didn't have a lot of toys prior to her birthday, so it is a new world. We now have a little tent filled with balls, a horse that bounces to a video on the TV, a ball popper, a shopping cart, a barn, a puppy that sings and talks....fun stuff!

Cake

Although Cara was exhausted for cake time, she did seem to enjoy here cake. I got her a personal cake so she could do some damage. Once I gave her a little taste, she got the idea pretty quickly and dug in. She was a bit "green" at the end, so we had to give her a bath before she opened her presents.

Birthday Girl

Wow, I can't believe it. My little angel girl is 1! Maybe it was all the commotion, but she really seemed to change a lot during her birthday week. She started walking about 5/6 steps at a time and she started to say more words. The walking and talking really makes her seem like a big girl.

We had a party for her on November 14th - all of her grandparents were there and all of her aunts and uncles. Cara couldn't believe all the people that wanted to play with her. She was so excited that she kept saying "hi."I think one of her favorite parts of the party was all the balloons. I think she tried to say the word "ball" a couple times prior to the 14th, but when she saw her new ball pit and all the balloons she said "ball" about a million times. It sounds more like "bah," but it is pretty clear what she is trying to say since she points at the "bah" in question!

I can't believe how much I love this little girl. Sometimes I feel like she is still a part of me. It truly is the most indescribable, amazing feeling. It fills me up.

Uncle Andrew, Aunt Neely, myself and Cara all headed out to the New England Aquarium in downtown Boston this past week. Andrew and Neely came in town from Bermuda and were had a few days to hang out. Cara loved that they had clear glass at her height so she could see the penguins. We also were able to meet Daddy at Bakey's for lunch, although Cara slept for that part of our day! It was fun, but I ordered poorly. Thankfully Andrew shared his with me.

Bouncy House Fun!

As far as I can tell, she thought it was pretty cool. She can't really jump on her feet, but she was in crawl position bouncing and moving around. She just loves other kids, so it was pretty cool.

Random fact of the week: Sneezing. Cara LOVES sneezing. When she sneezes she gets such a kick out of it. We are all now fake sneezing because it is so much fun. She is getting pretty good at fake sneezing too, though there is some spit involved. The day care teachers have fun with it as well!

Ladybug's first steps

Well, Halloween was a pretty cool day this year! After a long Saturday, a put on Cara's ladybug costume and then brought her to the full length mirror to check herself out. We were a couple feet from the mirror and when she saw herself she was so excited that she took her first independent steps towards her image. It was the cutest thing I've seen in my life!! That seems to have triggered a bit more bravery in standing without help and taking a few steps. Fun stuff.

We went over to Grandma McDonnell's in order to see all the trick or treaters. We get some at our house, but they get more. When Cara saw the kids dressed up, she was so, so excited. Each time they were leaving, Cara went after them. I think she would have loved to go around to houses, but then I would have had to eat all the candy :)

Bows

Cara had been in a bad mood for a few weeks toward the end of September/early October. She was pretty fussy in the evenings, but the last couple weeks have been amazing. I think she was going through a lot of development "stuff" because this is when she started wanting to be on her feet 24 hours a day! She has been in such a great mood. She happily plays after school/work - it is so much fun!

Over the past month or so, Cara's sleep patterns have improved somewhat. Some nights she doesn't wake up at all, other nights she will wake up and be inconsolable without a bottle. Progress. She is also down to one nap at day care. The day care teachers say that it is a battle to get her down. We usually cheat and give her a bottle as she goes down, this proves to be quite comforting, but might be a challenging habit to break!

Cara has also grown to be a bit of a cuddler. I was worried that she would never cuddle! Now, sometimes when you pick her up she will put her head on your shoulder - it is so sweet. Her teacher, Shannon, said she is doing this at day care as well. It's fun to get some snuggles from this cute little lady!
